Bowline ("we", "our", "the app") is an app that helps you remember details about the people in your life. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

TL;DR

Data we collect

Account data

Content you create

Contacts (optional)

If you grant Contacts permission during onboarding, the app reads names, phone numbers, emails, and birthdays from contacts you explicitly select. Only the contacts you tap "Add" on are imported. Contacts you don't select are never sent off device.

Device and notification data

How AI is used

Bowline uses the Anthropic Claude API to:

  1. Extract durable "key facts" from notes you save.
  2. Generate short summaries of your recent interactions with a person.
  3. Suggest a sentence or two for what to say when reaching out.

When these features run, the relevant note text and the person's name are sent to Anthropic's API through our backend. Per Anthropic's API terms, this content is not used to train Anthropic's models. AI output is generated by a model and may be inaccurate; you can edit or delete any AI-generated content, and you can flag it inside the app.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the processors needed to run the app:

Children

Bowline is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when material changes occur and indicate the new "Last updated" date.
